Obituary for JEAN WENHAM

JEAN WENHAM (nee FEDISHON) 1919 - 2015 With deepest sorrow, in her 96th year, we announce that Jean Wenham of Winnipeg was reunited with her loving husband Cyril in their heavenly home on May 13, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Cyril, son Bruce, and recently on March 28, 2015 her brother Eddie of Newport Beach, California, her sister-in-law Lena, her mother Beatrice and father Michael, and son-in-law Tony. Jean will be sadly missed by her oldest son John (Marlene), children Michael (Denise), Tracey, great-grandchildren Christian, Riley, Sam, Courtney and Ryan; daughter Shirley, children Brett (Shelley), Shelley, Jeff (Tara), great-grandchildren Kennedy and Curtis; her youngest son Brian (Donna), children Kevin, Kristen (Jamie), great-grandchildren Nicolas, Colin, Jessica and Matthew. Jean was born and raised in Winnipeg and married Cyril on Friday, March 18, 1938. They resided for many years on St. Mary's Road where they started "Wenham's Nursery". Many weekends were also spent at Market Square selling vegetables in the fall. Jean and Cyril were snowbirds who had many happy memories at their winter home in Mesa, Arizona. Fishing with Cyril and her sons and daughter was another favorite pastime along with travelling to Yellowstone National Park as a family. Recently she lived on Clayton Drive where she enjoyed playing card bingo, watching game shows, swimming and going to the YMCA's Senior Club every Friday. She loved her treats of tacos and potato pancakes (double sour cream!) at Perkins. She thoroughly enjoyed her Caribbean and Alaskan cruises and her stay on the Hawaiian Islands. She was very active for a 96 year old up until her stroke on April 1, 2015. She loved to joke around and played the ultimate April fool's joke on all of us. The doctors in the ER identified that because of her age and the toll that the stroke took on her she would not make it through the day. Well she fooled them all and with a heart as strong as hers, she lived a little while longer. "Baba Jean", as her grandchildren would call her, will be lovingly remembered and so sadly missed by her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. In her last three years, she enjoyed her Weekend Pizza and swim parties with her grandson Kevin and great-grandsons Nicolas and Colin. Baba Jean was well known for kibitzing with her great-grandchildren and was always seen instigating "play fights" that she would never admit to. She took great pride in her granddaughter Kristen's son and daughter's accomplishments in sports. She was there when Matthew scored his first touchdown in football in the rain and watched many of Jessica's soccer games. She also enjoyed heading out to the cottage at Hillside Beach and was the first to shuck corn and chase her great-grandchildren in the leaves. Thank you to the compassionate paramedics, doctors and nurses on the wards and in the Palliative Care and all of the special home care workers that took such great care in looking after Baba Jean. Father John also had a special place in her heart; it was his generous sprinkling of Holy Water that kept her alive for this long. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. in Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Rev. Fr. John Mostivsky officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
