Brian Dixon
March 20, 1951 - November 25, 2024
It is with saddened hearts, that we announce the passing of Brian George Dixon on November 25, 2024, at the age of 73.
Brian was born in Lethbridge, AB on March 20, 1951, to parents Charles and Marjorie (Galbraith) Dixon, brothers James Dixon, Richard Dixon and Howard Dixon. He spent most of his youth living in River Heights and it is here that Brian fostered lifelong friendships with the people in his community. Incredibly, one of these friendships helped change Brian’s life and he was forever grateful. This is where his story truly began.
Brian attended University of Manitoba and had a successful career at St. Norbert School, retiring in 2005 after 32 years as a cherished guidance counselor to so many students. Along with one of his best friends and colleague, Bruce North, they went on to change countless young lives for the better. As an avid sports fan, Brian coached minor hockey for most of his younger years. His most cherished memory was winning the 1977 Quebec Peewee Hockey Tournament with a certain player you may have heard of, Brett Hull.
Brian spent a great amount of time through his life at his family cottage in West Hawk Lake. It was a beautifully built log cabin right on the water. He took so much pride in talking about how many countless summers he enjoyed there. Brian was also an amazing story teller. Be it a friend, family or stranger, he would talk your ear off if you let him. His love of life and attention for detail would captivate anyone who would sit to listen. You could not go anywhere in public with Brian without having him run into former students, that would stop him to reminisce or thank him for something wonderful he did for them. He was a lover of people, history, storytelling and family but we can’t forget his passion for Bridge! Brian looked most forward to having a cold beer with family and friends while watching sports. He was a very passionate Winnipeg Jets fan and always knew the right plays from the comfort of his living room. Perhaps this was because of all the practice he got from watching his boys in their years of playing hockey where he never missed a game.
Brian is survived by his loving family, former partner Barbra (Mctavish) Dixon, his 2 sons Scott (Kellie Bourgeois) Dixon and Darcy (Brendi) Dixon, His 6 cherished grandbabies Trey, Dylan, Savannah, Madison, Tye, and William; brother James (Evelyn) Dixon and sister-in-law Allison (Leech) Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, financial contributions in memory of Brian can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or directly to the Jocelyn House. It was Brian’s wish that there would be no service. To celebrate a life well-lived, the family will host a celebration of life on January 17, 2025, 2:30pm at The Belgian Club, 407 Provencher Blvd. Bring your favorite "Dix" story!
We would like to say thank you to all the Cancer Care workers at St. Boniface hospital and all the staff at Jocelyn House for taking such amazing care of Brian and all your kindness. As well as a huge thank you to a special friend Jo for all your help through this difficult time.
Brian’s greatest love was people! He touched each and every life he came in contact with. He will be deeply missed and cherished by all who knew and loved him. Gramps/Dad will forever be watching over us.
