MANITOBA CONTRACT BRIDGE LEAGUE
MINUTES OF MEETING SEPTEMBER 24, 2015

Present : Unit 181 Board Members: Marielle Brentnall, Doug Fisher, Shirley Galler, John Hindle, Leigh Anne Shafer, Barry Wolk, Paulette Migie, Marlene Pontifex, Dave West, Deloris Ankrom. Ray Hornby
Also in Attendance Bill Treble.

1. New items to be added to agenda
Holiday Monday Games

Marielle Brentnall called the meeting to order.

2. Minutes of Meeting August 20, 2015 Approved as printed Moved by Doug Fisher, Seconded by Deloris Ankrom Carried

3. Marielle reported that there was a problem with some members parking in designated spots. Especially Wall Grain. Paulette will make a sign and post on our door. Marielle will post notice on front page of our web site.
Hearty Hearts is still listed as a scheduled game on Web Site this will be removed.
The Free Press Monday Bridge announcements need to be updated. Deloris Ankrom will update. Doug Fisher will be giving lessons on Wed Mornings commencing Oct 17 and Sat. Mornings this will be announced in the Free Press. Correspondence received re complaints and suggestions from the Colors of Autumn Tournament, Marielle will respond. Bernia has stepped down from offering lessons. Marielle will thank her for her past services.

12. Duplimate Machine Maintenance schedule in place and Debby Gnoinski in charge

13. Learn Bridge in a Day seminar was given at the Chicago Nationals. This was attended by several of our members, and found to be very informative. We can purchase a one year license that encompasses 5 people.
Motion: Unit 181 will purchase license from the ACBL A collective meeting of the club owners Moved by Doug Fisher, Seconded by John Hindle. Carried.
Leigh Anne Shafer to purchase and she will be reimbursed

14. Treasurers Report on the Colours of Autumn Tournament. We were in a break even position. Table counts were down, the 199 games were not well attended and had to be cancelled Sat Morning and Sunday Swiss Teams.

15. Facility Report: Meeting held on Sept 23 attended by Doug and Shirley for the Unit and Bill and Debby for the Facility. Update on Premises and new lease was given. Building progress is behind schedule but is continuing. New lease is waiting to be signed. To commence January 1 2016 for a 10 year term. Our current lease had an increase programmed in For July 1 2016. There would not be another increase until year 4. Chair recovering quote received from a friend of George Lee and will be considered. Doug and Shirley to look after. Duplimate Machine maintenance schedule was announced and a note was made that the cover must be placed on the machine after usage. Card fees will need to be increased after the new lease takes place, and a suggested amount of $1.00 per games was discussed.

16. Discussion followed about the lease of premises, timing and fee increase. Also the ratio of what amount of the increase should be retained by the clubs. We also would get an allowance to upgrade our carpet and painting etc from leasehold improvements negotiated into the lease. We will have the right to use overflow parking.
Note while the discussion on table fee increases and the ratio for the clubs to keep it was requested that Bill Treble due to conflict of interest be asked to leave the meeting.
When Bill returned he stated he greatly resented being asked to leave. Suggested the board should have more trust and transparency. Stated that all members are welcome at Unit Board Meetings.

17. Teaching Room has been cleaned.

18. Chair recovering Doug and Shirley will coordinate.

19. Special Events The 199 events at the recent tournament was discussed. A separate registration table and a separate partnership person should be provided, also we should strive for preregistration for this event .This would ensure that the event takes place. A Telephone Blitz was suggested to take place prior to the November Tournament.

20 .Gala one year anniversary party will be held on November 6, 2015. Volunteers are required to sell raffle and gala entrance tickets.

21. NAP sanction is in. November 1, 2015 date of event. All 3 strats will be held on the same day. Requirement is at least 5 tables in each event. Again Telephone blitz was suggested, along with a sign up sheet. It was requested that a printed list of the qualifiers be placed on our bulletin board.

22. CNTC Marlene will co-ordinate Suggest that 4 games be held, 1 game Tuesday, 1 Wednesday and 2 Saturdays

23 Membership up date was given by John Hindle. New members kit will be available Oct 6.Comment made on the fact that the web site needs updating. Asked who can do the update? Checked into advertising we can receive from ACBL 75% of qualified advertising. Retired Teachers Assoc, , Leisure Guide, Senior Scope, and MARGE, Creative Retirement are being contacted also CBC Radio and Oldtimers radio for free public service announcements. Alcoa 2016 Games are requesting help form Bridge Manitoba to run a bridge game.
Facebook is up and running, committee are requesting interesting items or pictures to up load on site. Members will be contacted after their second renewal notice from the ACBL to ensure membership is renewed. Ray Hornby will do the calling.
New Business Ft. Garry Pal 55/Expo on living well is being held October 27 we will commit to a table. Volunteers will be required to man the table in shifts 9.00AM to 5.00 PM

24. Mentoring Ray Hornby will continue to co-ordinate. It was stated that we require a fresh perspective this is bring looked into.

25. Holiday Monday Games It was brought to the boards attention that no open game is available for more skilled players. The existing Monday afternoon game is for intermediate players only. This will be discussed further at the next meeting.

26. Fundraising. Bridge Week 2017 will require hospitality funds. Will be on next meeting agenda.
