GERARD DECELLES
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Gerard Decelles, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 89 years of age.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Lina, and he leaves to mourn his children: Marielle (Leonard Brentnall), Michel (Tammy), Richard and Gerald (Melani). He also leaves behind his beloved grandson Colin (Andrea), granddaughters: Allison (Patrick Faucher) and Shannon Robinson, and great-granddaughter Zoe. Gerard also leaves in mourning: Berthe, Florence, Hubert (Denise), Louis (Jeanne), Jules (Louise), Jean (Armande), Yvette (Roland Boisvert), (Colette), Claude (Suzanne), and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Born on December 23, 1929, the second youngest of five children, Gerard was born in Welwyn, Saskatchewan. He attended Ferndale School until he left to help look after the family farm when his father became ill, right up until he met Lina at a dance in Giroux. On October 18, 1957, he married Lina Balcaen and together they established their first home in Welwyn, SK where their first child was born. They lived two years in Saskatchewan after which they moved to La Broquerie to raise their family. Gerard worked on the oil trucks, saved until they could purchase a dairy farm, and together with his wife, built it up and were further blessed with three more children. When they sold the farm, they built a new home in the town of La Broquerie which they enjoyed for many years. In 2010, they sold their home and moved to an apartment in Winnipeg to be nearer their children.
Gerard enjoyed many activities - golfing, pool, gardening, cards, Sudoku, bocce, shuffleboard. He enjoyed listening to music and was an excellent dancer. He enjoyed the competitiveness and camaraderie in all the activities he participated in.
Gerard was very involved in his community and his family. Over the years he was on many boards and committees. He also ensured that his children were able to participate in any activities they wished - Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, sports, and music. He even coached the hockey team that his sons played on. He was always there when any of his family needed him. He tried to make a difference in the place he lived.
He was ever patient and supportive when his wife Lina's health started to decline and he nursed her until her passing in 2015. Gerard battled with short term memory loss which made him forgetful. He enjoyed excellent health until recently when he was diagnosed with cancer. He was always thankful for every bit of kindness shown to him.
Thank you to all the caregivers and especially Nancy Bilibli for the loving, wonderful and compassionate care which enabled Gerard to remain in his home until his passing. Gerard's strong faith continued to give him strength and we take comfort in knowing that he is now in God's care. Thank you Dad, for your love and devotion - for the legacy of living your life with kindness, dignity, integrity and for the gift of so many precious memories to live by.
Thank you to Ginette Balcaen, for officiating the prayer service to be held for Gerard at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons, on Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00 p.m. Thank you to Father Abraham for officiating the Funeral Mass to be held in La Broquerie Catholic Church. Eulogies will be held at 10:30 a.m. with service to follow on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. A private interment will take place immediately following the service in the La Broquerie Cemetery.

C'est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le départ de notre papa bien aimé Gerard Decelles le mercredi 11 septembre 2019 à l'âge de 89 ans.
Il fut prédécédé par son épouse bien aimée Lina et il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants Marielle (Leonard Brentnall), Michel (Tammy), Richard et Gerald (Melani). Il laisse aussi son petit-fils bien aimé Colin (Andrea) ainsi que ses petites filles Allison (Patrick Faucher), Shannon Robinson et arrière-petite-fille Zoe. Gerard laisse aussi dans le deuil ses beau-frères et soeurs: Berthe, Florence, Hubert (Denise), Louis (Jeanne), Jules (Louise), Jean (Armande), Yvette (Roland Boisvert), Colette, Claude (Suzanne) ainsi que nombreux neveux, nièces, cousins et cousines.
Né le 23 décembre 1929, l'avant dernier d'une famille avec cinq enfants, Gerard, né à Welwyn. a assisté l'école Ferndale. Mais il a dû quitter pour aider à gérer la ferme familiale lorsque son père est devenu malade, jusqu'à ce qu'il rencontre Lina à une danse à Giroux. Le 18 octobre 1957, il a épousé Lina Balcaen et ensemble ils ont établi leur premier foyer à Welwyn en Saskatchewan pendant deux ans ou leur premier enfant fut né. Ils ont ensuite déménagé à La Broquerie pour acceuillir trois autres enfants. Suite à la vente de leur ferme, ils ont déménagé au village où la construction d'une nouvelle maison leur a permi d'en jouir pleinement pendant de nombreuses années. En 2010, ils ont vendu leur résidence à La Broquerie afin de déménager à Saint Boniface pour être plus près de leurs enfants.
Gerard était très impliqué dans sa communauté. Il a servi sur maintes comités. Il s'est assuré que ses enfants puissent participer à tous les évènements dans leur communauté - soit sports, musique, scouts et guides. Il était toujours disponible pour sa famille.
Gerard était très soucieux de Lina lors du déclin de sa santé et a pris soin d'elle jusqu'à son décès en 2015. Il a joui d'une belle santé jusqu'à récemment ou il a été diagnostiqué d'un cancer. Il était reconnaissant de toute gentillesse qui lui était démontré.
Gerard aimait beaucoup d'activités - le golf, jouer au boules, les cartes, travailler un Sudoku, bocce et j'en passe. Il aimait écouter de la musique et était un excellent danseur. Gerard aimait la compétition et la camaraderie de toutes les activités qu'il entreprenait.
Un merci spécial pour toutes les intervenantes en santé, spécialement Nancy Bilibli, pour avoir pris soin de Gerard avec tant de tendresse et compassion, ce qui l'a permi de continuer à habiter dans sa résidence jusqu'à son décès. La grande foi de Gerard lui a toujours donné courage et nous tirons réconfort à savoir que notre papa est dans les mains du bon Dieu. Merci Papa pour tout ce que tu as fait pour nous et pour l'héritage de précieux souvenirs que tu nous laisses.
Merci à Ginette Balcaen pour avoir accepté de célébrer les prières pour Gerard qui auront lieu au salon Desjardins au 357 DesMeurons, le mardi 17 septembre 2019 à 19h00. Merci à l'abbé Abraham, célébrant de la messe qui aura lieu en l'église catholique à La Broquerie. Témoignage à 10h30 suivi d'une messe le mercredi 18 septembre 2019. L'enterrement aura lieu suivant la messe au cimetière de La Broquerie.
